Have you ever thought about making your own nut butter. You can literally do it from any kind of nut, seeds too! All you need is a good food processor or a Vitamix.
My reasoning for making my own nut butter is that there are very few brands available that don’t add anything extra. You don’t need anything other than the nut. If it’s more of a dry nut then maybe a drop or two of oil will help it along but other than that, there’s no need to add anything if you don’t want to.
For my first attempt I used 2 cups of organic almonds and 2 tablespoons of organic canola oil. That’s it. And oh my goodness was it ever delicious. I had to stop myself from eating the whole bowl. Seriously…
Here’s what I did:
Time: 10 minutes
Serves… That totally depends on your determination not to eat it all immediately. But if you’re nice enough you can share. It lasts a while.
2 cups of organic almonds
2 tbsp of organic canola oil (you can use any oil so long as the taste is not too strong)
Put the nuts into the food processor. Switch on. The nuts will turn into a powder first, then slowly they will turn into a paste. You’ll see the difference as it begins to change. If you want, to help it along, you can add the oil. It takes less time this way. Once it is a thick paste (mine rolled into a ball when it was ready) you’re done and it is ready to be eaten!
Tip: Try adding things you would not normally add – shake things up! What about vanilla essence or coconut? Goji berries or chopped up dates? The list is endless! Make sure you let me know how it goes!!
