We all know someone that spreads their bad vibes around and they may not even know it. When someone is in that space, sharing their bad juju is almost unconscious. Sometimes you leave a friend, family member or colleague feeling zapped of energy or with a headache. You could also leave feeling sad, angry or deflated. Chances are that you have energetically agreed to make them feel better and therefore taken on their energetic baggage.
Knowing this and having awareness is half the battle. The other half is shaking off the juju, releasing it and returning it to sender.
Shake it off: Literally shake off the energy as you dance! It works and it’s really fun too. Shake it like you’ve got ants in your pants!
You could also visit somewhere grounding in nature somewhere and give the energy to the earth either by visualizing the energy flowing though your body downwards into the earth or by dusting the vibes off you. Sometimes just by being in nature, be it somewhere grassy or in the sunshine, surrounded by trees or by water revitalizes your energy and brings you back to your awesome self.
One of the things I always do, regardless of whether I shake, dance or retreat to nature (all great practices) is to return the energy to sender with love and consciousness attached. I send love simply because there can never be too much of it. I send consciousness because being aware is the first step in growing and evolving. Say the words “I return to sender with love and consciousness attached” and exhale deeply as if to return the energy with your words and breath and shazam! The Universe will take care of the rest.
How do you love someone, have them in your lives and not take on their energy as your own? How do you love them and love yourself by not participating in the sharing of toxic energy?
When in this kind of situation, reminding yourself that their energy is not your own when you begin to feel the symptoms of bad juju (lethargy, headaches, suddenly zapped of energy etc). You can also surround yourself with healing golden light, send some to your loved one while you’re at it.
Do remember to do the following:
- Don’t judge, it’s unnecessary and no one knows what it’s like to walk another’s path.
- Apply empathy and compassion.
- If and/or when your loved one does open up, respect it and offer gratitude because it’s not always easy to be vulnerable
- Let the energy flow through you when it does head your way. We can have tendencies to hold onto one another’s energy in an attempt to help. We need to allow it to leave our bodies.
- If it is too much for you, remember that you can leave. Being there for others is a wonderful quality but not at the cost of your own health.
In the spirit of shaking off and shaking up, dance with me! There can never be too much dance in our lives! Whether you’re shaking off bad vibes or not, a few minutes of dancing can improve any day!
